About Danger Aware
A US nonprofit working to prevent child abuse and grooming through education, awareness and empowerment.
Most children are taught to look both ways before crossing the road long before anyone talks to them about their own body, their own boundaries, or what to do when an adult makes them feel uneasy. That gap is where harm happens — and it is the gap Danger Aware exists to close.
What we do
We make free, age-appropriate safety education for children between four and twelve, and for the adults who look after them. Everything on this site — the picture books, the comics, the cartoons, the coloring pages, the articles for parents — is written to do one job: give a child the words, the confidence and the permission to speak up before something small becomes something serious.
Nothing we publish is behind a paywall, a login, or a form. A parent at a kitchen table, a teacher with a class of twenty-eight, and a social worker in a waiting room all get the same thing: open the page and use it.
How we work
- Prevention, not fear. Frightened children do not disclose. Every resource is written to leave a child feeling capable rather than frightened, and to leave an adult with something concrete to say.
- Reviewed before it is published. Material is checked by people who work in child safety before it goes on the site. Anything submitted from outside is read by a person first.
- Built for the adult in the room. Children learn body safety from the grown-ups around them, not from a website. Our job is to give those grown-ups something good to work with.
- Safe by design. There are no child accounts, no tracking, and nowhere for a stranger to contact a child. That is a deliberate constraint on what we will build, and it is set out in our child safety policy.
Where we are
Danger Aware is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States. Our materials are used in all fifty states, by families, schools, faith groups, youth organizations and child advocacy centers.
Who pays for it
Donations, grants and the time of volunteers. There is no advertising on this site and we do not sell anything — including data. If you would like the work to continue, giving is the most direct way to help.
