Terms of Use

The terms on which we make these resources available. Short, and in plain English.

Last updated: September 2026

By using this website you agree to what follows. If you don’t agree with it, please don’t use the site.

1. What this site is

Danger Aware is a US nonprofit organization. This website publishes free child safety education material for children and the adults who care for them.

2. What it is not

Nothing here is legal, medical, psychological or clinical advice, and using it does not create a professional relationship of any kind. It is general education. If you are worried about a specific child, contact your local child protective services, the police, or a qualified professional. Our reporting page lists who to call.

We are not an emergency service. We do not monitor this site around the clock and we cannot respond to emergencies. In an emergency, call 911.

3. How you may use our material

You may read, download, print and share our books, comics, videos, coloring pages and articles free of charge for personal, family, classroom, or non-commercial community use. You may make as many copies as you need for the children in your care, and you do not need to ask us first.

You may not:

  • Sell our material, charge for access to it, or include it in anything you sell.
  • Remove our name or credit from it, or present it as your own work.
  • Alter it in a way that changes its safety guidance, and still attribute it to us.
  • Use it to promote a product, a service, or a political campaign.

Everything on this site is owned by Danger Aware or used with permission, and is protected by copyright. If you want to use something in a way this section doesn’t cover — a training programme, a publication, a translation — just ask. We usually say yes.

4. What you send us

If you submit a story, a message or any other material, you confirm that it is yours to send, that it does not identify a real child, and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights. You keep ownership of what you write; you give us permission to review it, edit it for length and clarity, and publish it on this site and in our materials, with or without your name as agreed with you.

We review every submission and we are under no obligation to publish anything. We may decline or remove a submission without giving a reason.

5. Accounts

Accounts on this site are for staff and volunteers, and are created by an administrator. If you have one, keep your password to yourself, don’t share the account, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it. We may suspend an account that is being misused.

Children do not need and cannot create accounts. This is deliberate, and is set out in our child safety policy.

6. Links to other sites

We link to hotlines, agencies and other organizations because they are useful. We do not control them, and we are not responsible for their content, their services or their privacy practices.

7. Availability

We provide this site as it is and as it is available. We try to keep it accurate and online, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, Danger Aware is not liable for any loss arising from your use of this site or reliance on its content.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site means you accept the update.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Danger Aware is incorporated.
