Financials

Where the money comes from, what it is spent on, and the filings you can check for yourself.

Everything on this site is free, which means somebody else paid for it — donors, grant-makers and volunteers. They are entitled to know what we did with it, and so are you, whether you have given us anything or not.

Where the money comes from

Individual donations, grants from foundations, and the donated time of illustrators, writers and child safety specialists who work with us for nothing. We do not sell anything, there is no advertising on this site, and we do not sell or share supporter details with anybody — so there is no fourth source of income that a reader needs to go looking for.

What it is spent on

We are a small organization and the money goes to a small number of things: writing and illustration, animation and video, printed classroom packs and the outreach that delivers them, and the hosting, translation and expert review that keep the site open and correct. Our donate page sets out what a gift of a given size actually buys.

Our filings and reports

Every US nonprofit of our kind files an annual return with the IRS, and it is a public document. Ours are here, alongside our own reports. Each covers a financial year ending March 31.

How we hold ourselves to it

  • No advertising, ever. There is none on this site and there will not be. Children's safety material is not a place to sell things, and ad money would make us answerable to the wrong people.
  • We do not sell or share supporter data. Not to other charities, not to list brokers, not to anyone. What we hold and why is set out in our privacy policy.
  • Nothing is behind a paywall. Every book, comic, video and coloring page is free to every family, school and youth group, with no login and no form. That is the point of raising the money in the first place.
  • A receipt for every gift. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law, and we acknowledge every one.
  • We will tell you what your gift funded. If you want to know what a specific donation paid for, ask us and we will give you a straight answer.

Check us independently

You do not have to take our word for any of this. Our tax-exempt status is on the public IRS register, and you can look us up there without going through us.
